The Value of Investing in Quality Lingerie
The days of owning 10 bras and wearing only 3 are over.
How many bras do you own? How many do you actually wear? Our guess is, like most women, a small percentage of however many are sitting in your lingerie drawer. We can almost guarantee that you will have at least one that rubs and irritates you (poor quality), or one that creates marks (too small in the band), perhaps one that’s straps fall off your shoulder (cup too small), and maybe one that gapes in the cup (cup too large or the style is not right for you), or one that simply does not support you and despite being what you believe to be a ‘good’ bra never makes you look or feel good in your clothes. The most common reason for this is that the under band is too big and since the under band does 85-90% of the work in your bra if it is too big the reason for wearing one in the first place is completely compromised.
We estimate that about half of our new customers are wearing the wrong size. Not only does this mean longing for the end of the day so you can go home and get changed and comfortable it also poses health issues such as neck and back pain, indents in the shoulders and rounded shoulders. More concerning to wear a bra with a wire that does not fit correctly can cause the wire to rub on breast tissue in turn causing benign lumps which are a needless worry.
At KERESS… we firmly believe that to invest in 3 -4 quality well fitting bras for day to day wear is all you need. Of course you can indulge in seasonal colours and styles for special occasions but in terms of great support and long lasting comfort the leap in price point from a purchase in a High Street Department Store is well worth it.
A quality well fitting bra not only gives you support and comfort it will also change the way you hold your body and carry your clothes which in turn can make you look and feel younger and slimmer!
If you are sceptical about investment in your lingerie then call in to the boutique for a fitting and see for yourself what a difference it really can make.
We stock ranges starting from a 30 back and up to a J cup, are fully trained to the highest standards by the best providers and manufacturers to fit and advise on lingerie.
Please book appointments via Facebook, email or phone 07312500435.
Indicators you are wearing the wrong size bra....and maybe reasons why?
According to whichever survey you happen to read this month between 60 to 90 percent of women worldwide are wearing the wrong size bra. Whatever the true figure may be this still equates to over half of us. I cannot tell you how many ladies walk in to the boutique wearing the wrong size but what I can say is that it is definitely within this bracket. Some of the ladies we fit are so far out even though they have been advised that this is their size. They have usually been to a store that measures with tapes. Ask yourself, how can you measure volume (breast tissue) with a static instrument (tape measure)? In short, you can't.
Here are some pointers that suggest that your bra does not fit you correctly:
-
Straps that dig into your shoulders = usually cup is too small
-
Underwire that stabs you = cup is too small
-
The dreaded 'quadraboob' or other types of spillage = cup is too small
-
Cups that bunch up = cup is too big
-
Back bulge = band is too small
-
A band that rides up your back = band is too big
An ill-fitting bra can also cause back, neck, or shoulder pain.
Does one or more of the following apply to you?:
1. You've never been fitted properly, or for a long time
Get fitted every 12 months at an absolute minimum is what we recommend.
2. You buy the cheapest bra you can
It's worth spending money on a well fitting bra and owning two or three that are comfortable rather than ten and only wearing two of them because the others dig in or scratch.
3. You always go for the prettiest bra in the shop
A well fitting bra may not always be the sexiest BUT at KERESS... we do stock quality heritage European brands and ranges of pretty bras that are designed for the bigger cup size as well as for everyday wear such as Empreinte, PrimaDonna and Panache.
4. You machine wash your bras
OK, this doesn't necessarily mean you’re wearing the wrong bra size but throwing your bras in the washing machine means they will lose their original shape and elasticity. Take the time to hand wash them, especially if they’re lacy and don’t you dare think about putting them in the dryer. If you want your bras to last, hang drying is best.
5. You've been wearing the same bra for too long
Even if you’re wearing the right size, bras wear out over time. Is yours stretched out to a larger band size? Do you need to go past the tightest hook? In this case you definitely need a new bra since the band does 85 to 90 percent of the work in supporting your breasts.
6. Your body has changed but not your bra
Bodies change thanks to puberty, pregnancy, birth control pills, age, stress, etc. If you've gained or lost a few pounds, get re-fitted and if your breasts get significantly bigger before or during your period, it might be worth buying a larger bra specifically for that lovely time of month.
7. Your not happy with the way your bra fits you and your body shape
Wearing the wrong size can make your breasts look bigger or smaller than they actually are. We know from experience that a well fitting bra can accentuate your shape and actually make you look better and younger!!
If any of the above sound familiar then do call in and see us for a fitting and advice on what styles suit you the best.
We look forward to seeing you soon.
Don't forget our bra bin, all proceeds go to research against secondary breast cancer, a great charity.
